A conversation with a customer I had at work a few minutes ago:

Man: "Hello?"
Me: "Hello, is this Joey?"
Man: "May I ask who's calling?"
Me: "This is Phil from from [workplace]."
Man: "Yes, this is Joey."
I don't understand... so your identity was conditional depending on who I was?
